We're Geeks. We Play Games.

I'll put something more exciting here later.

In the meantime, have a beverage and relax. It could be awhile.

What beverage would I suggest?

  • A nice sangria.
  • An old fashioned.
  • A Long Island Iced Tea.

Noteworthy News August 27-September 2, 2012

The Gaming Gang has posted a video from GenCon highlighting Legendary, the Marvel Deck Building Game from Upper Deck.

From their post: "Jeff and I had the opportunity to sit down and play the demo of Legendary, the upcoming Marvel Deck Building Game to be released by Upper Deck this November. Here in the video you’ll get a chance to see the layout of the game, some of the wonderful original artwork on the cards, and watch us play a few rounds. It isn’t the entire game, but we did defeat Magneto."

Fantasy Flight Games has announced that they are sold out of the Star Wars Edge of the Empire Roleplaying Game Beta.

From their announcement: "At Gen Con Indy 2012, we announced the Star Wars®: Edge of the Empire Beta. Since then, the response has been fantastic. Today we are pleased to announce that, except for a small amount of copies available at the FFG booth at PAX Prime this coming weekend, we are completely out of stock of this limited-edition 224-page softcover beta rulebook! For those who were unable to get a copy from FFG, there is still hope! A number of retail partners have ordered Star Wars®: Edge of the Empire Beta kits from FFG, and will have a limited number of beta rulebooks available for sale. These retail kits have begun shipping today, and will be arriving at retailers worldwide in the weeks to come. Check with your local hobby games retailer to inquire whether they are participating in the beta."

Kinetic 7, a new Skirmish Game Magazine has published their inaugural issue for free at their site.

From their site: "Kinetic7 is a new PDF magazine featuring tutorials, skirmish game features, and other tasty stuff. The first issue is out now, free to download below. Brace yourself for the Kraken!"

Steve Jackson Games has announced that Munchkin Zombies 3 and Munchkin Skullkickers are both now shipping.  They also announced their November releases, which include Munchkin Apocalypse.

From their announcement: "It's the end of the world! In Munchkin Apocalypse, every possible natural (and unnatural) disaster has happened . . . or will happen during the game. You are a rugged survivor in a world full of people -- and things -- that want to kill you and take your stuff. So do it to them first! This set introduces four new classes and a new, yet eerily familiar, card type: Disasters! And what's with all these seals running around? Don't they know the world's about to end? You should really keep an eye on that seventh one in particular . . .
Munchkin Apocalypse will be available in Fall 2012. That should give you a few weeks to play it before the world really ends, at least if the Mayans are right . . ."

Days of Wonder has announced SHADOWS OVER CAMELOT - THE CARD GAME.  The board game version of this is one of our favorites (see review here) and I will probably have to check the card game out as well.

From their site: "Darkness has once again descended over Camelot; the Kingdom is no longer safe. Your illustrious father's weapons have barely been retired to the armory and his revered coat of arms passed on to you when troubling rumors begin spreading anew..."

International Gamers Awards have announced their 2012 Nominees - General Strategy.A few personal favorites include Risk: Legacy and Star Trek: Fleet Captains.

About the awards: "The International Gamers Awards were created to recognize outstanding games and designers, as well as the companies that publish them.  The awards are truly international in scope, with committee members representing countries throughout the world.  As such, it is our belief that these awards will truly select the ‘best of the best’ and come to be respected by not only hobbyists, but the general public at large.  We hope that this will lead to greater exposure for these wonderful games to more and more people and help spread the word of the "wonderful world of gaming" on a global scale."
