We're Geeks. We Play Games.

I'll put something more exciting here later.

In the meantime, have a beverage and relax. It could be awhile.

What beverage would I suggest?

  • A nice sangria.
  • An old fashioned.
  • A Long Island Iced Tea.

Noteworthy News: August 6-12, 2012

This weekend will see the official release of Fantasy Flight's Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game at Gen-Con, and they have released a few last previews and the rules for the game.  The previews they released are for the Y-Wing Expansion Pack and the TIE Advanced Expansion Pack.

From their site: "X-Wing is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE Fighters, facing them against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, X-Wing recreates Star Wars’ exciting space battles. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission!"

Also from Fantasy Flight, the end of the Dwarrowdelf Cycle for The Lord of the Rings the Card Game.  The epic conclusion includes what you would expect to find at the end of a series of adventures in Moria, a Balrog!  This marks the end of the first "deluxe expansion" cycle for FF's well made and exciting living card game based in the world of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings.

From their site: "Tasked by Elrond to locate the source of the Orcish activity in the Misty Mountains, the heroes of Middle-earth have traveled for months through the mountain passes and through the dark, abandoned mines of Moria. Now, in Shadow and Flame, the heroes arrive at the root of the Misty Mountains’ evil…much to their horror."

Atlas Games has posted some Gloomy news and have shared details on how to host a Gloomy Gala.

From their site: "We sold out of the Gloom original game last month, and the reprint arrived this week.  Many outlets had stocked up on the game when we were running low, so you may have been able to find it without too much trouble, but if that's not the case you should know that it will be arriving back in stores next week.  Specifically, our US distributors should be getting restocked with the game on Monday, and from there it's just a question of how long it takes to get product to your friendly local game store from their preferred distributor.  (If you're overseas there's even more unpredictability with freight forwarders, customs, etc.)"

Evil Hat Productions has released a new preview of their upcoming The Dresden Files RPG book, The Paranet Papers

From their site: "Hi folks! It’s time for another preview from The Paranet Papers, a “catch up” on a few of the more recent books plus tour of the world for the Dresden Files RPG. As said before, we don’t have a publication date yet! This one’s going to take as long as it takes."

And finally, Upper Deck has announced Legendary (a working title), a Marvel Universe based deck building game.

From their site: "A hot trend with gamers right now are deck building games, but many currently in the market lack the name recognition and firepower of beloved characters from the Marvel Universe; until now. Upper Deck Entertainment is pleased to share the company will be launching a Marvel-based deck building game currently being called “Legendary” in the near future."

This weekend is Gen-con. For those of you who are going, know that I am jealous. For those of you who are not, know that this week will be spent pouring over all the news and announcements that will be forthcoming.  Check back next week as I bring you what I am most excited about.
